History
In the fall of 2007 Uppsala University made the decision to start a brand new research program in Global Energy Systems. The consequence of this decision is that the Uppsala Hydrocarbon Depletion Study Group (UHDSG), which was formed in 2003, is now part of Uppsala University's official priority investments into energy related research. Beside support from Uppsala University the group is also supported by the Swedish Energy Agency and receives industry support from the Lundin group, Stena AB, Technova (Japan), and Nokia Research Center (Finland).
The group has collaborative links with the China University of Petroleum in Beijing, University of Groningen of the Netherlands and the University of Liverpool Management School based in the UK.
Research areas
Our research is focused on the issue of resource physics, especially concerning availability and production of fossil fuels, but also includes resource usage in society and socioeconomic development from a resource perspective. The issue of Peak Oil and related problems is a topic of major importance to our research.
